Black Manhattan

Black Manhattan

In this heavier more fortified version of the classic Manhattan, we replace the vermouth with an Italian amaro and orange bitters. This in turn gives the cocktail a rich, warm, herbal caramel profile. This rendition is a fairly recent creation that has swept the world. Created in 2005 by bartender Todd Smith for the Bourbon & Branch restaurant in San Francisco.

2oz Three Shore Black Label

1oz Averna Amaro

.5oz Cherry Juice

1 Dash Angostura Bitters

1 Dash Scrappy's Orange Bitters

Brandied Cherry

In a mixing vessel of your choice combine the whiskey, amaro, cherry juice and bitters. Stir with ice for 10-15 seconds, strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a Brandied Cherry. For this particular drink we decided to pair it with our Black Label Three shores to pay homage to the rye whiskey that's in this classic drink, but elevate it with darker stone fruit flavors that come from the additional 2 years the Black Label whiskey spends aging in Cabernet Sauvignon barrels from a winery in Woodinville.
